Brief History
VFCSS
The Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary School( formally Vieux-Fort Senior Secondary) was established on October 1st 1963. This was made possible through a collaboration between the government of Saint Lucia and United States of America. The latter contributed US$100,000 and construction work begun in 1962. The first phase consisted of a large Economic block and an Industrial Arts Complex, it was completed in December 1962. When the school officially opened, it admitted one hundred and sixteen (116) students making it the first coed school on the island. The two other secondary schools on island at the time were Saint Joseph’s convent for girls and Saint Mary’s College for boys.
PRINCIPAL's MESSAGE
Dear Visitor,
On behalf of our staff and student body, permit me to welcome you to our school website! We are very pleased that you took the time to visit with us and we invite you to explore to your heart’s content.
Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary School is a proud, close knit family. We boast the largest student and staff complement of any secondary school on island, and we are proud of our achievements over the past fifty-five years. We value our reputation for excellence and we take a deeply passionate approach to all we do. Our fierce school pride is no more evident than when our black and gold colours are blazing the tracks or when our pink and grey, blue and grey or white and grey stand to receive CXC awards.
From our teachers to the ancillary staff, everyone has an equally important role to play. The staff is highly trained and committed. Our teachers are among the most dedicated and qualified in St. Lucia. They challenge our students daily with internally modified curriculum geared at ensuring them quality education. As educators, we are continually challenging ourselves to remain current and relevant; an important quality if we are to continue to provide the very best education to our students and help them master 21st Century skills and attitudes needed to traverse this dynamic world.
Here at Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, we value our students and their input. Our pleasure as educators is derived from working with our students and helping them develop into confident, mature and holistic people who are cognizant of the need for balance between academics, co-curricular activities and voluntary service. This is why we believe that our commitment, open communication and collaborative attitude make this school the best place for young people.
Of course, we appreciate that our achievements are in part due to the strength of our relationship with other school stakeholders, especially the parents and the business community. We are therefore especially grateful for the commitment and support of dedicated parents and socially responsible businesses who have become our extended family. The importance of partnerships and positive synergies cannot be overstated and there is certainly no value which can be placed on the extent of the impact of such support for and on our students.
Do return regularly and keep abreast of our latest happenings. Our calendar of activities is an excellent place to begin. Enjoy your experience with us, and, please, feel free to contact us with any queries you may have.
Warmest regards,
Ava Peter (Mrs.)
